Diosdado Cabello faces extradition calls and migration accusations
U.S. Representative Carlos Giménez has intensified calls for the immediate capture and extradition of Venezuelan official Diosdado Cabello to face justice in the United States. Giménez, a Republican, has characterized Cabello as a criminal responsible for crimes against humanity and noted that evidence against him continues to grow. A $25 million reward is reportedly offered for his capture.
In response to migration trends and enforcement actions, Diosdado Cabello, acting as Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), has accused Venezuelan opposition leaders of acting as “coyotes” who deceive migrants into traveling to the U.S. Cabello claimed these opposition figures profit from migration while leaving citizens vulnerable to enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The rhetoric comes amid heightened tensions regarding Venezuelan migration. Reports indicate that mass deportations under the Trump administration have impacted Venezuelan communities in Florida, such as Doral, following the termination of protections like Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
