Diourbel launches self-funded road rehabilitation project

The municipality of Diourbel has launched a road rehabilitation project funded entirely by its own resources. Mayor Malick Fall announced the initiative, known locally as ‘opération fatta trous yi’ (plugging the holes), to address the degradation of the city's infrastructure.

The project has commenced with the renovation of Rue d’Avignon, a major thoroughfare that connects the regional hospital to several large neighborhoods, including Grand Diourbel, Thierno-Kandji, and the local market. Following this initial phase, the municipality plans to extend rehabilitation efforts to other areas, including Studio Groupe, Keurgoumack, and Médinatoul.

Mayor Fall urged residents and local stakeholders to continue paying their taxes to ensure the municipality can sustain these infrastructure investments. The initiative has received support from local transport workers, including bicycle taxi drivers and cart operators, as well as market representatives.
