Azerbaijan expands diplomatic ties and observes Day of Remembrance
Azerbaijan is engaged in significant diplomatic and commemorative activities. On September 27, the nation observed “The Day of Remembrance” to honor those who died during the Patriotic War. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Victory Park in Baku to lay a wreath, while a nationwide moment of silence was observed.
On the international stage in New York, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov conducted 37 bilateral meetings and signed 17 agreements during the 81st UN General Assembly. Notably, Azerbaijan and Senegal signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a formal mechanism for political consultations, aiming to institutionalize bilateral dialogue.
Economic and energy relations also saw developments. Greece increased its natural gas imports from Azerbaijan by 16% during the first seven months of 2026. Additionally, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for a decision to cap fuel prices in Italy, a move she noted strengthens cooperation between the two nations.
