France unrest: Macron condemns foreign leaders for information manipulation

French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned foreign leaders for what he described as “unacceptable and stupid” comments regarding recent violent unrest in France. Speaking from Doha, Qatar, Macron stated that while there is no evidence of direct foreign interference in the protests, there has been significant foreign manipulation of information. He specifically criticized the use of AI-generated images depicting false scenes and dismissed claims that the country is being invaded by Islamist migrants as “totally false.”

The unrest, which began as protests over rising living costs and education funding, escalated into widespread rioting, looting, and arson in cities including Paris, Marseille, and Lyon. Authorities reported that approximately 2,400 people have been arrested and nearly 1,000 police officers were injured. The violence has caused hundreds of millions of euros in damage to businesses and shops.

Macron’s remarks follow criticisms from US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump has used the unrest to argue that France’s immigration policies are failing, claiming Paris will “very soon” become a Muslim city. Macron accused such leaders of conducting political campaigns at the expense of France.
