Diplomatic tensions rise in Cuba and Colombia regarding U.S. relations

Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández de Cossío stated that while Cuba maintains official diplomatic channels with the United States, no significant progress has been achieved in recent communications. He noted that the Cuban government remains open to dialogue despite intensified economic pressure and military threats from the Trump administration. These pressures, including a de facto oil blockade, have contributed to electricity shortages and scarcity of food and water on the island.

In Colombia, political analyst Sandra Borda has critiqued the current administration's approach to relations with the United States. Borda suggests that the government is making concessions to Washington without securing reciprocal benefits. Despite efforts to demonstrate closeness to the U.S., Colombia faces challenges such as decertification due to illicit crop eradication failures and ongoing tariffs on certain exports.
