Diputación de Cuenca approves infrastructure and administrative extensions
The Diputación de Cuenca has approved several administrative and infrastructure measures. During an extraordinary session, officials unanimously extended the justification deadline for the 2025-2026 Plan de Obras y Servicios (POS) until May 16, 2027. This extension follows reports that only 10 percent of municipalities have completed necessary administrative procedures, largely due to high bureaucratic workloads. President Álvaro Martínez Chana announced that the institution will analyze current regulations to simplify future procedures, particularly to assist smaller municipalities with limited technical resources.
Additionally, the session approved credit modifications to facilitate the opening of firefighter stations in Cañete and Priego. The measure passed with support from the Socialist Group, despite opposition from the People's Party.
In a separate infrastructure development, the Diputación de Cuenca has launched a tender for the improvement of the road connecting Hontanaya and Puebla de Almenara. The project, with a budget of approximately 299,657 euros, aims to refurbish over 7.5 kilometers of road that currently suffers from cracks, potholes, and material loss. The works are expected to take six months and are intended to support local agricultural, livestock, and tourism activities.
