Diputación de León installs safety barriers in Peñalba de Santiago
The Diputación de León is finalizing the installation of three safety barrier structures near Peñalba de Santiago to prevent debris and aggregates from falling onto the access road. The project, which has an investment of approximately 830,000 euros, aims to mitigate the recurring issue of material landslides caused by heavy rains and storms that frequently force the closure of the road.
Roberto Aller, Vice President of the Diputación and Deputy of Infrastructure, confirmed that the barriers are positioned at different elevations: one at 600 meters, another at 300 meters, and a third located near the roadway itself. Due to the difficult terrain and to ensure the safety of both workers and residents, helicopters were utilized to place the final elements of the containment system.
The installation is intended to provide a definitive solution to the long-standing problem of material runoff from the slopes and nearby streams, reducing risks for road users and preventing the loss of communication with the locality.
