Diraq and Equinix to deploy quantum computer in Sydney data centre

Quantum computing specialist Diraq has announced plans to deploy Australia’s first quantum computer within a commercial data centre. The system is scheduled for installation at an Equinix facility in Sydney in October 2026.

The deployment aims to test how quantum computing performs in environments used for AI, cloud, and other enterprise workloads to facilitate commercial adoption. The system will feature a silicon chip with eight quantum bits (qubits), utilizing self-contained cryogenic cooling and control electronics. Diraq stated the unit is designed to fit within existing data centre footprints, requiring minimal integration and drawing less than 20kW of power.

The collaboration between Diraq and Equinix will focus on evaluating operational performance in a live commercial environment, including remote monitoring and integration with classical computing resources. The project also intends to explore the potential synergy between scaling quantum and AI systems.
