Director Brandon Broussard discusses ‘Switches’ and Black romantic comedy

In a recent episode of ‘The Black Watch’, director Brandon Broussard discussed his award-winning short film, ‘Switches’. The film explores themes of Black love and marriage through a blend of romance, relationship drama, and sci-fi comedy.

Starring Sinqua Walls and Chanté Adams, ‘Switches’ follows a married couple on the verge of divorce who utilize an unconventional opportunity to attempt to reconnect and rediscover their initial spark. Broussard described the project as a mix of influences, comparing its tone to works like ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’, and ‘Freaky Friday’.

Broussard expressed his ambition for the film to join the canon of classic Black romantic comedies, such as ‘Love Jones’ and ‘Coming to America’. The discussion was hosted by BOSSIP Managing Editor Dani Canada, iONE Digital Director of Content Alvin Blanco, and comedian Tiffany Burke.
