Director Curry Barker rejects $2 million offer to alter villain in horror film 'Obsession

Horror film *Obsession* has become a cultural talking point, praised for its unconventional protagonist Bear. Director and writer Curry Barker disclosed that several studios offered him up to two million dollars to rewrite Bear as a traditional hero, but he declined, insisting the character’s flawed decisions were essential to the story’s tension and appeal.

Barker explained that making Bear more heroic would have rendered the plot predictable and diminished the film’s impact. The movie, which premiered on May 15, follows Bear’s misguided wish to win the love of his friend Nikki, leading to supernatural consequences and strong box‑office growth, fueled by word‑of‑mouth and online discussion.
