Director General of Border Roads reviews strategic projects in Jammu and Kashmir

Lt Gen Harpal Singh, Director General of Border Roads (DGBR), visited the Army’s Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, to review strategic road development and infrastructure projects in forward areas. During the visit, he held discussions with Northern Command Chief of Staff Lt Gen M P Singh and Chief Engineer Maj Gen Salil Pandey.

Lt Gen Singh also inspected the headquarters of Project Sampark, a division of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). He urged personnel to expedite critical border connectivity projects. Project Sampark manages strategic road networks across nine districts in Jammu and the Pathankot district in Punjab, operating largely in mountainous terrain such as the Pir Panjal ranges.

Currently, the project oversees the construction and maintenance of approximately 2,963 km of road network with an annual budget of about Rs 1,000 crore. In addition to roadwork, the project maintains 140 km of Ditch-cum-Bunds (DCB), which serve as tactical defensive fortifications for the 10th, 26th, and 29th Infantry Divisions.
