Director Jan Prušinovský discusses prison comedy series Oddíl B

Director Jan Prušinovský has shared insights into the creation of the ten-episode comedy series ‘Oddíl B’, co-written with screenwriter Petr Koleček. The series, which was filmed in early 2025 in locations including Jirkov, Chomutov, and the Nové Sedlo prison, explores the comedic and bizarre situations found within a prison environment.

Prušinovský noted that his interest in the setting was sparked by stories from actor Zdeněk Godla. To ensure authenticity, the production sought to work closely with prison officials and even aimed to include real inmates in the cast. The director emphasized that his own background, influenced by his parents' manual labor and his travels through industrial outskirts rather than city centers, helps him portray everyday people and manual work with a sense of lived experience.
