Director Jung Ji-woo considers leaving erotic cinema

Director Jung Ji-woo has expressed uncertainty regarding his future in directing erotic-themed projects following the release of the Netflix series ‘The Scandal’. The series, an adaptation of the 18th-century French novel ‘Les Liaisons dangereuses’ set during the Joseon era, stars Son Ye-jin and Ji Chang-wook.

Despite reaching the top three on Netflix’s global charts during its second week, the production has faced mixed critical reception. Reviewers have noted issues with pacing and dramatic tension. Additionally, the series sparked online debate regarding actress Nana’s appearance in her role as the character Hui-yeon.

During a press interview in Seoul, Jung addressed the feedback, stating he is considering new projects that may not include sensual or adult-rated elements. He noted the creative difficulty of balancing emotional depth with physical scenes to ensure characters are not defined solely by their bodies.
