Director Madhumita requests professional designation without gender labels

Director Madhumita has requested that media professionals and reviewers address her simply as director rather than using gendered terms like lady director. Speaking at the trailer launch for her upcoming psychological thriller, John Doe, she explained that attaching gender to her designation creates a form of branding before a film is even released.

Madhumita noted that such labels often lead to the assumption that female directors will only produce romantic or feel-good movies. She expressed a desire to explore all genres, stating that human emotion remains the universal element in her work. She urged reviewers to judge films based on their quality alone rather than the gender of the person who directed them.

The film, which stars Arjun Das and Sanchana Natrajan, follows a complex investigation into a missing child case involving a family that recently moved to India from Dubai. The trailer was launched with support from directors Lokesh Kanakaraj and Pa Ranjith.
