Director Nitesh Tiwari clarifies AI use in Ramayana film
Director Nitesh Tiwari has addressed speculation regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the upcoming film Ramayana: Rise of a Legend. Speaking at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, Tiwari clarified that AI was employed solely for technical lip-syncing purposes to ensure characters' mouth movements match dialogue in various dubbed versions.
Tiwari emphasized that the technology does not replace human performance or voice work. “All the voices are dubbed by the artistes,” he stated, noting that AI is used only to help global audiences enjoy the film in their native languages through accurate lip synchronization.
The two-part cinematic project, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, has a combined budget of approximately $500 million. Part 1 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, with Part 2 planned for Diwali 2027. Early advance bookings have reportedly reached $2.58 million across five countries, with North America contributing $1.91 million.
