Director Sotiris Tsafoulias rejects Al Pacino-led American remake
Greek director Sotiris Tsafoulias has revealed that he declined an opportunity to participate in an American remake of his series ‘Eteros Ego’ (Another Me), despite having been in communication with Al Pacino regarding the project.
Speaking on the ERT program ‘Noris – Noris’, Tsafoulias explained that his decision was based on the direction of the script, noting that the adaptation for the American market altered the tone of the original story. He stated that the script had become “too Americanized” for his preference.
Tsafoulias also addressed his decision to remain in Greece despite receiving professional offers from the United States and France. He expressed a commitment to working with Greek actors and creators in his native language, stating he does not understand the urge to seek opportunities abroad when local talent is sufficient. Additionally, the director mentioned a past intense disagreement with actor Ian McKellen regarding a project, which resulted in a difficult telephone conversation.
