Director Travis Knight discusses Masters of the Universe streaming success
Director Travis Knight has expressed disappointment regarding Amazon's strategy for the Masters of the Universe reboot, noting that the company appeared to value its streaming potential more than its theatrical prospects. While the film earned approximately $114 million worldwide against a production budget of $170 million to $200 million, it found significant success on Prime Video, recording 1.17 billion minutes watched during its first week.
Despite the box office underperformance, the film remained a top title on Prime Video for five consecutive weeks. Knight stated that while he hoped for a larger theatrical victory, he has accepted the film's outcome. Regarding the possibility of a sequel, Knight indicated he would be delighted to return to the franchise if the opportunity arises, noting that decisions regarding future installments remain outside his control.
The film's post-credits scenes have left several storylines open for potential follow-ups, including the introduction of Princess Adora/She-Ra and teases regarding the return of Skeletor.
