Director Zach Cregger vows ultra‑violent Resident Evil reboot

Director Zach Cregger says the upcoming Resident Evil movie will be the most violent film of his career, emphasizing raw, bloody horror and a survival‑focused storyline rather than the franchise’s usual Umbrella Corporation lore. He describes the film as “grotesque,” “brutal” and “a very bloody affair,” with the action kicking in within the first eight minutes.

The story follows a new protagonist, Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a medical courier who learns his girlfriend is pregnant while battling monsters in Raccoon City. Cregger adds a personal dimension, questioning whether it is right to bring a child into a worsening world.

The reboot is co‑written by Cregger and Shay Hatten and produced by Constantin Film together with PlayStation Productions. Cast members include Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser. It is slated for a theatrical release in Brazil on 17 September, following the poorly received 2021 adaptation “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.”
