Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seizes gold worth Rs 5.5 crore in Mumbai

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 3.5 kg of gold dust valued at approximately Rs 5.5 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Four individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, including two airport staffers and two transit passengers. Officials stated the accused are allegedly part of an international gold-smuggling syndicate operating through the airport.

In a separate recent operation, the DRI Nagpur team intercepted a passenger on the 12102 Dnyaneshwari Express at Nagpur Railway Station. The individual was found in possession of 2.165 kg of gold, consisting of 16 gold bars worth roughly Rs 3.09 crore. Intelligence suggested the gold had been smuggled into India via the India-Bangladesh border.

The DRI has also conducted several operations targeting wildlife contraband across the country, resulting in the seizure of leopard pelts, Indian star tortoises, Tokay geckos, pangolin scales, and tiger bones, leading to at least 13 arrests.
