Direitos Já! Forum discusses female political participation in Brazil

The ‘Direitos Já! Fórum pela Democracia’ hosted an event at the Casa de Portugal in São Paulo, gathering over 400 women to discuss female participation in public life and the challenges facing Brazilian democracy.

Prominent political figures attended the meeting, including Senate candidates Simone Tebet and Marina Silva, as well as Fernando Haddad. The discussions focused on the necessity of gender equality in decision-making roles, arguing that female leadership improves public agendas, transparency, and accountability.

The event also drew historical parallels to the 1978 ‘Movimento do Custo de Vida’, a major popular mobilization led by women from urban peripheries. Organizers emphasized that strengthening women's presence in political spaces is essential for a more representative and just democracy.
