Disability advocacy groups protest in Argentina for emergency law extension

Health workers, families, and social organizations held demonstrations in Rosario and Buenos Aires to demand the extension of the disability emergency law. Protesters expressed concern that the current legislative project could reduce rights and fail to provide the minimum necessary conditions for accessing pensions, protected employment, and basic services.

Participants highlighted that inflation and payment delays are jeopardizing the continuity of treatments and the operation of institutions, such as day centers and special education schools. Organizations, including APRIDIS and various professional colleges, have issued an open letter to Governor Maximiliano Pullaro, urging him to ensure a legislative quorum and to manage the transfer of national funds required by Law 24.901.

Additionally, advocates warned that changes to the service nomenclator could deepen inequalities in access to care. The movement seeks a law that guarantees essential support, including medical treatments, medications, and adapted transportation services.
