Disability awareness and adapted sports initiatives highlighted in Uruguay and Argentina

In observance of International Spinal Cord Injury Day on September 5, health professionals and advocates in Uruguay held a press conference at the Hospital Alfredo Vidal y Fuentes de Minas. The event focused on promoting social inclusion, increasing awareness of disabilities, and addressing the physical and cultural barriers that hinder autonomy for people with spinal cord injuries.

Federico Estévez, a wheelchair user following a traffic accident, shared his personal journey to highlight the need for environments that facilitate adaptation and social participation.

In Argentina, the organization Discapacitados Motrices Trabajando (Dimot) is preparing for the National Adapted Basketball League. To support its activities and fundraise, the institution is organizing a solidarity event at the Club Independiente in Rama Caída. Dimot president Mauro Martínez noted that the event will feature numerous prizes donated by local businesses to assist the organization during this significant period for the club.
