Disability employment awareness initiatives highlighted in October
October marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), highlighting the importance of inclusive workplaces and the contributions of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Best Buddies International is hosting a month-long virtual event to celebrate NDEAM. Through its #WorkplaceWednesday series, the organization will share stories of employees and employers to demonstrate the impact of inclusive employment. The Best Buddies Jobs program specifically focuses on matching job seekers with IDD to roles that align with their unique talents and interests, fostering independence and economic participation.
In Yorkton, Canada, Councillor Greg Litvanyi participated in a job-shadowing experience with the SaskAbilities Partners in Employment Clean Sweep team. The program, funded by the Yorkton Business Improvement District, provides meaningful employment for people with disabilities through downtown beautification tasks such as litter collection and sidewalk maintenance. The initiative aims to promote community belonging while providing essential services to the city.
