Disability inclusion highlighted in Mexico and Argentina
Efforts to enhance inclusion for people with disabilities are being highlighted through international forums and educational exhibitions. At the “Abrir puertas, cerrar brechas” International Congress organized by the Latin American Union of the Blind (ULAC) at UNAM, Arlen Siu Jaime Merlos, president of the Electoral Tribunal of the State of Mexico, advocated for full political participation. She emphasized that individuals with disabilities should not only vote but also have the opportunity to represent, decide, and govern under equal conditions, supported by accessible justice mechanisms such as clear language and Braille.
In Santiago del Estero, Argentina, the 16th International Book Fair featured demonstrations of inclusive educational tools by the CEI N° 50 “San Juan Pablo II”. Educators and students showcased adapted materials, including textured books, relief resources, and Braille systems. The presentation also highlighted the role of assistive technology and tiflotecnology in helping individuals with visual impairments access information and participate more effectively in educational environments.
