Disability Pride Initiatives Spotlight Inclusion in Australia and US

Able Australia is observing Disability Pride Month 2026, sharing a range of stories that showcase how people with disability experience pride, advocacy, creativity and community. The campaign highlights barriers such as physical, communication and attitudinal obstacles, and celebrates achievements from art exhibitions to a Deafblind camp led for the first time by a Deafblind coordinator and leadership committee, with comments from Alex Sar and Rodney.

In the United States, advocate Eric B. Aguilar recounts his 15‑year career in emergency preparedness for people with disabilities. He holds multiple leadership roles, including councilmember on the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities, vice‑chair positions on regional advisory committees, and a vice flotilla commander role with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Drawing on his lived experience with cerebral palsy, Aguilar works to embed accessibility into disaster planning and aims to become a Disability Integration Advisor Lead.
