Disability rights and support updates in Bolivia, Argentina, and Peru

Various developments regarding disability rights and support systems are occurring across South America.

In Bolivia, representatives from the Nueva Esperanza organization are calling for an increase in the monthly allowance for people with severe or very severe disabilities. The current benefit of 250 bolivianos has remained unchanged since its implementation in 2016 via Law 977 and is argued to be insufficient for current needs.

In Argentina, the Ministry of Health has officially implemented a 1.90% increase in tariffs for the Basic Benefits System for Persons with Disabilities for October 2026. This adjustment, based on the September Consumer Price Index, applies to all types of benefits and includes a 20% additional surcharge for services provided in the Patagonian provinces.

In Peru, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) reported that persons with disabilities constitute 1.22% of its workforce as of September 2026. This includes 39 employees across various roles, such as medical specialists, psychologists, and administrative technicians, within a total staff of 3,178.
