Disability rights groups highlight gaps in EU policy and protection

Disability rights advocates are highlighting inconsistencies in how the European Commission integrates accessibility into new policies. The European Disability Forum (EDF) recently expressed support for proposed revisions to European public procurement rules but issued a sharp critique of the Affordable Housing Act. The EDF noted that people with disabilities and accessibility requirements appear to have been overlooked in the housing proposal.

In Italy, the Italian Disability Forum (FID), in collaboration with the EDF, is organizing a webinar titled ‘Nothing without us: women with disabilities leading the change.’ The event focuses on the implementation of EU Directive 2024/1385 regarding the fight against violence against women and domestic violence. The initiative aims to ensure the perspectives of women with disabilities are central to the legislative process in Italy, involving institutional representatives, universities, and civil society organizations.
