Discord faces partial blocks on Philippine mobile networks

Discord access has been restricted on several major mobile networks in the Philippines, including Globe, GOMO, TNT, and DITO, following a government ultimatum. While Reddit remains accessible, Discord users on certain networks report the platform will not load.

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) issued letters to both platforms on September 21, demanding they name a local representative and provide safety plans within 24 hours. Reddit reportedly met with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the CICC, agreeing to establish a Philippine-based representative and a rapid-response “Green Lane” for content flagging. While the CICC suggested extensions were discussed, reports indicate Discord has faced service disruptions on specific networks.

The government's actions follow a school shooting in South Cotabato on September 18. The disruption impacts various sectors, particularly Filipino freelancers, virtual assistants, gaming clans, and esports organizations that rely on Discord for professional coordination and communication.
