Disinformation and AI errors pose growing challenges for information verification

Experts are highlighting the growing challenges posed by disinformation and the inaccuracies of artificial intelligence. In Romania, specialist Flavia Durach noted that AI systems can generate errors by summarizing internet data without verifying if events, such as the Lipovenesc Bors Festival in Jurilovca, have actually been canceled. To combat this, she recommends ‘lateral reading’, which involves verifying key information through diverse, credible sources like local authorities or established press outlets.

In Moldova, Dan Nicorici, program director at CPR Moldova, emphasized that the speed of official information must match or exceed the speed of disinformation. He noted that false messages often become credible by incorporating true facts while omitting essential details. Nicorici argued that authorities and NGOs must act more rapidly to provide verified details on critical issues to prevent falsehoods from shaping public perception.
