DİSK reports 1.86 trillion lira in wage losses due to inflation and taxes

DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu held a press conference in front of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to present the ‘Wage Losses Report’ prepared by DİSK-AR. The report highlights a significant economic crisis regarding income distribution and purchasing power in Turkey.

According to the findings, the total loss in worker wages due to inflation and taxes reached at least 1.863 trillion lira during the first eight months of the period analyzed. Çerkezoğlu stated that the government’s failure to meet inflation targets in the last four Medium-Term Programs has led to a decline in the share of national income received by workers.

Specifically, the report notes that the minimum wage lost 6,196 lira in value as of August. DİSK is calling for an immediate update to the minimum wage and all other wages to compensate for these losses caused by high inflation and an unfair tax system.
