Disney+ acquires UK rights to The Walsh Sisters

Disney+ has acquired the second-window broadcasting rights for the comedy-drama series ‘The Walsh Sisters’ in the United Kingdom. The deal was facilitated by distributor Cineflix Rights following the success of the first season, which became RTÉ’s highest-rated drama in two years.

Based on the bestselling novels by Marian Keyes, the series follows the lives of five sisters and their parents in Dublin. In addition to Disney+, the series has secured international distribution deals with TV2 in Norway, TV4 in Sweden, MTV Oy in Finland, TVNZ, Pickbox in the Balkans, and Yes in Israel. Stan will host the series in Australia, while Roku’s Howdy platform has acquired rights for the United States.

Production for a second season is currently underway through a collaboration between RTÉ, the BBC, Cuba Pictures, and Metropolitan Pictures. The upcoming season will see the return of the original lead cast, including Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner, and Louisa Harland.
