Disney+ and Channel 4 strike landmark UK content deal

Disney+ has entered into a significant agreement with the UK broadcaster Channel 4 to expand its local content library in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Starting in early 2027, the deal will allow Disney+ subscribers to access Channel 4’s linear HD channel and hundreds of hours of on-demand scripted and unscripted content at no additional cost.

Under the terms of the agreement, select Channel 4 programs will be available on Disney+ day-and-date, meaning they will stream at the same time they air on the original broadcaster. Featured content includes the drama ‘Maya’ starring Bella Ramsey, the comedy ‘Stepping Up’ featuring Denise Welch, and the reality format ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.

Disney describes this as one of its most significant global deals to date, part of a broader strategy to partner with local broadcasters to increase cultural relevance and reduce subscriber churn. Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra noted that the partnership is complementary, as the two services serve different audience demographics.
