Disney+ and Hulu release trailer for mystery series Phony

Disney+ and Hulu have released the official trailer for ‘Phony’, a new coming-of-age mystery series scheduled to debut on October 20, 2026. The series stars Sam Nivola and Connie Britton.

The plot follows Sonny Cook, a teenager who wakes up in a hospital following a car accident only to discover that the woman claiming to be his mother, Ellen, may be an impostor. Despite her identical appearance and voice, Sonny becomes convinced she is a stranger after she fails to perform a specific secret gesture used between them. While friends and acquaintances suggest his suspicions are merely a result of trauma, the series explores the difficulty of proving such a claim.

Produced by 20th Television, the series is written and directed in its first episode by Nick Paley, who serves as executive producer alongside co-showrunner Anthony King and Connie Britton. The ensemble cast includes Meera Syal, Grace Brennan, Mahaela Park, Maliq Johnson, and Colter Lee.
