Disney and Universal Music implement new streaming strategies
Disney has announced a framework licensing agreement with Netflix, marking a shift away from the strict exclusivity model that defined the streaming wars. Under this deal, a wide selection of Disney's films and television series will be available on Netflix, including Pixar titles, the 'Ice Age' saga, and classics such as 'Felicity' and 'Revenge'. Current programming, including 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians', will also be included. These titles will remain available on Disney+ as well.
In the music industry, Universal Music Group is piloting a new release model in India. To combat declining subscription revenue growth, the company is testing a system where new releases from top artists are available exclusively to paid subscribers for a three-day window before becoming available to free users. Spotify has described the initiative as a pilot program involving participating artists, noting that songs are not permanently withheld from free tiers and will still appear in editorial playlists and recommendations.
