Disney announces four major theme park projects at D23

During the D23 event, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum announced four major projects aimed at addressing long-standing fan requests. These projects include the restoration of an animatronic at Animal Kingdom, a reimagining of EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth, updates to Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, and the return of the characters Dreamfinder and Figment.

While the announcements generated significant interest, analysts suggest these projects are following Disney’s ‘slow burn’ playbook. Unlike ‘fast track’ projects where details and concept art are released immediately following an announcement, ‘slow burn’ initiatives often lack granular details or active permit filings at the outset. Based on previous patterns, such as the announcement of the Monsters, Inc. land at Hollywood Studios, it may take several months before Disney provides specific construction timelines or confirms which existing attractions will be replaced.
