Kingdom Hearts IV announced for 2027 with new anime series

Kingdom Hearts IV D23 Disney+ Square Enix anime adaptation

During the D23 fan event, Disney and Square Enix announced major expansions for the Kingdom Hearts franchise. A new trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV confirmed a late 2027 release window for platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The gameplay footage showcased a crossover with Pixar’s Coco, featuring the Land of the Dead, and introduced new mechanics such as a playable King Mickey with an origami-inspired visual style.

In addition to the video game, Disney confirmed that Kingdom Hearts is receiving an original anime series adaptation. The show will air on Disney+ and Disney Channel and will involve franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura to expand the series' universe with a brand-new story. The announcement coincides with the franchise's upcoming 25th anniversary.
