Disney announces live-action Moana release details

Disney is releasing a live-action adaptation of its animated classic Moana (Oceania), scheduled to arrive in Italian theaters on August 19, 2026. The film follows Vaiana Waialiki, played by Catherine Laga’aia, the daughter of a village chief on the island of Motunui. To save her people from dwindling resources and decaying vegetation, she ventures beyond the coral reef to find the demigod Maui, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson.

Directed by Thomas Kail, the production features a cast including John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen. The film is produced by a team including Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The soundtrack includes original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina.
