Disney announces multiplatform 9/11 anniversary programming
Disney has announced a multiplatform media initiative to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The programming will span various properties, including ABC News, National Geographic, Disney+, Hulu, and ABC-owned television stations.
Key components of the commemoration include a live national broadcast titled ‘9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan,’ hosted by David Muir, Robin Roberts, and Diane Sawyer. The special will culminate in the illumination of the ‘Tribute in Light’ art installation in New York City. Additionally, National Geographic will premiere a three-part docuseries, ‘9/11 Reunited,’ which was developed in collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Debra O'Connell, Chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, stated that the goal is to honor victims and their families while ensuring the stories of resilience and courage endure for future generations. The initiative aims to highlight the ongoing work of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in honoring those lost and those who served.
