Disney announces Spaceship Earth refurbishment and Tomorrowland project priority
Disney has announced several major updates and shifts in construction priorities for its theme parks. At EPCOT, the Spaceship Earth attraction is set for a significant refurbishment. Moving away from its previous focus on human communication, the updated version will center on the theme of human connection. This project follows a previously announced but postponed 2019 plan that was delayed due to the pandemic and budget constraints.
At the Disneyland Resort, President Jill Estorino confirmed a change in the development sequence for upcoming projects. The reimagining of Tomorrowland will now take priority over the construction of the new Avatar destination at Disney California Adventure. The current development order for major projects is Avengers Campus, followed by a Coco-themed attraction, the Tomorrowland transformation, and finally the Avatar destination in the Hollywood Backlot. This shift allows Imagineering to focus on the original 1955 park's vision before returning to the Backlot projects.
