Disney+ announces ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ set in 1990s Los Angeles
The Disney+ series ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’, created by Malcolm Spellman, serves as a spin-off to ‘Snowfall’. Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the narrative shifts focus from the crack epidemic of the 1980s to the emergence of the West Coast rap industry.
The story follows characters attempting to reinvent themselves amidst the social and economic tensions of South Central and Compton. Central to the plot is the relationship between Wanda Bell, a former addict turned talent scout, and her cousin Lamar, a talented teenage producer played by Asante Blackk. The series explores how the music industry mirrors the predatory hierarchies of the drug trade, as hip-hop evolves from a local expression of community struggle into a global cultural phenomenon.
