Disney+ cancels live-action ‘Gargoyles’ reboot

The planned live-action reboot of the 1990s animated series ‘Gargoyles’ for Disney+ has been cancelled. Greg Weisman, the co-creator of the original series, confirmed the news during an interview at Fan Expo Chicago, stating, “That’s dead,” when asked about the project.

The adaptation had been in early development since 2023, with writer and showrunner Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, attached to the project. The series was intended to follow the character Goliath as he protects modern-day New York City.

While the live-action project is no longer moving forward, the original animated series remains available for streaming on Disney+. The franchise continues through other media, including comic books and tabletop games.
