Disney halts plans for 'The Muppet Show' full series revival

Despite the recent success of 'The Muppet Show' special, Disney has no current plans to develop a full series. The special, which premiered in February 2026, was a significant ratings hit, drawing approximately 8 million viewers across ABC and Disney+ within its first eight days.

The production, a collaboration between 20th Television, The Muppets Studio, and Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures, also achieved critical acclaim at the 2026 Emmy Awards, winning four trophies, including Outstanding Variety Special.

However, reports indicate that the revival has stalled due to creative difficulties. Stakeholders have reportedly struggled to agree on a premise for an ongoing series that satisfies all parties involved, including Disney and Point Grey Pictures.
