Disney cast members address burnout and wage concerns
Disneyland cast members have responded to social media claims that employees hate their jobs, clarifying that while they find the work satisfying, they are experiencing significant burnout. Workers reported being overworked, facing disrespectful behavior from guests, and struggling to meet basic financial needs.
In July 2024, Disneyland cast members ratified a three-year contract establishing a $24 hourly minimum wage. At Walt Disney World, a separate agreement will bring the minimum wage to $20.50 by October 2026. Despite these increases, employees face high costs of living, particularly in Orange County, leading many to rely on roommates, long commutes, or second jobs.
A 2018 union-funded survey of approximately 5,000 Disneyland Resort employees indicated that 85 percent earned under $15 an hour and 74 percent could not cover basic monthly expenses. Disney previously disputed those findings, labeling them “inaccurate and unscientific.”
