Disney develops fifth Halloweentown movie
Disney is in early development of a fifth installment in the Halloweentown franchise for Disney Channel and Disney+. The project comes nearly 20 years after the fourth film, ‘Return to Halloweentown’, premiered in 2006.
Screenwriters Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn have been tapped to develop the script, utilizing characters originally created by Paul Bernbaum, the writer of the 1998 original film. Houghton is known for ‘Forbidden Fruits’, while Koehn has worked on the ‘Gossip Girl’ reboot.
While plot details and a release date remain unannounced, fans are anticipating the potential return of original cast members. Kimberly J. Brown, who played Marnie Piper in the first three films, has expressed interest in returning to the role. The franchise remains a significant asset for the studio, having accumulated over 160 million streaming hours on Disney+ globally.
