Disney explores FAST channel launch to boost streaming growth

Disney is exploring the potential launch of Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) channels to expand its advertising business and drive subscriber growth. During a quarterly earnings conference, CEO Josh D’Amaro indicated that free services could act as a funnel to encourage users to subscribe to premium platforms like Disney+ and Hulu.

D’Amaro noted that while there are no specific announcements yet, the company views streaming and its parks and experiences division as its two primary growth pillars. The strategy aims to reach price-sensitive customers and increase advertising inventory. Additionally, Disney plans to introduce enhancements to Disney+ next spring, including games, products, and increased personalization for subscribers.
