Disney granted patents for AI-powered character interactions
Disney has been granted two new patents aimed at utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance guest interactions with theme park characters. The technology focuses on creating more natural and personalized experiences through machine learning.
The first patent, titled “Emotionally Responsive Artificial Intelligence Interactive Character,” describes a system capable of analyzing conversations to identify emotional cues. This would allow AI characters to adjust their responses based on the user's tone and content rather than relying solely on pre-written dialogue.
A second patent, “AI Generated Creative Content Based on Shared Memories,” explores using personal stories shared by guests to generate customized content. For example, a character could incorporate details from a guest's family celebration into its interaction. While these patents were approved in September 2026, they do not confirm that these features have been implemented at Disney parks or that characters can currently recognize guests from previous visits.
