Disney implements AI for animal monitoring and corporate restructuring

The Walt Disney Company is expanding its use of artificial intelligence across both its theme parks and corporate operations. A recent patent application describes a system for Disney’s Animal Kingdom that would use cameras and machine learning to monitor animal behavior. This AI-driven system aims to identify deviations from normal movement patterns to alert zoological teams and could potentially notify guests when animals are active in viewing areas.

Simultaneously, Disney is undergoing a corporate-wide workforce redesign driven by AI adoption. Horacio Gutierrez, Chief Legal and Global Affairs Officer, informed employees that the legal and global affairs department will become a much smaller organization as the company automates workflows and moves toward self-service models. This restructuring includes a new job opening for a ‘Director of AI Enablement and Legal Engineering,’ a role tasked with redesigning legal workflows through AI for tasks such as contract review, research, and regulatory analysis.
