Disney launches live‑action Rapunzel shoot at Girona Cathedral in Catalonia

Disney has begun filming a live‑action adaptation of the classic Rapunzel story, titled “Enredados,” in Catalonia. Approximately 500‑900 crew members are working on transforming the Girona Cathedral’s interior and iconic staircase into a medieval set, with large draperies, sculptures and a platform recreating a medieval aesthetic. The production operates under tight security and has altered normal visitor access to the monument.

Casting for the film took place in Salou on the Costa Daurada, and additional shooting locations include the Santes Creus monastery, the towns of Besalú and other sites across the region. The project marks a major international undertaking by the U.S. studio in Spain, highlighting Catalonia’s historic architecture as a backdrop for the movie.
