Disney+ launches Ryan Murphy’s series “The Shards” on August 6

Disney+ will debut the first season of “The Shards” on 6 August. The drama, created by executive producer Ryan Murphy and based on Bret Easton Ellis’s award‑winning novel, follows a group of privileged high‑school seniors at an elite private school in 1980s Los Angeles as they confront identity, sexuality, jealousy and a serial killer known as “The Trawler”. The series is produced by 20th Television and features a cast that includes Igby Rigney as Bret, Homer Gere as the mysterious newcomer Robert Mallory, and supporting roles by Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell, Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood and Jordan Roth.

In Europe, Disney+ announced new six‑month subscription plans priced from €5.99 per month, with discounts of up to 25 % across ad‑supported, standard and premium tiers. The platform also highlighted additional August releases, such as a Travis Barker documentary, a National Geographic lion‑cub series, and a new Star Wars Visions anime.
