Disney plans monthly Brazilian productions and telenovelas
Disney is planning a significant expansion of its local content production in Brazil. According to Monica Albuquerque, head of Local Content for the company, the streaming platform Disney+ aims to release one original Brazilian production per month starting in mid-2027.
The company is specifically exploring the possibility of producing telenovelas, a format traditionally central to Brazilian television. This strategic shift is being driven by the success of local titles such as the romantic comedy series ‘Amor da Minha Vida’. The new strategy will place a particular emphasis on stories targeting female audiences.
While specific details regarding the length or schedule of potential telenovelas have not been disclosed, the move signals an effort to align more closely with popular Brazilian dramaturgy and local viewing habits.
